go ahead and ask, chloe ...
i by no means know all this stuff, but i know enuf to get into trouble ... plenty of info on the net about it too.
what i can tell you is my nikon has 4x optical and 4 times digital zoom and i never use the digital. the digital zoom kicks in after the optical zoom is zoomed all the way in. i prefer to zoom in all the way with the optical, then manipulate the image with photoshop ...
but that's just me
